Data runs out faster abroad: maps, translations, photo uploads and video in your feed. A few settings stretch the same bundle a long way.
Turn off automatic updates
App updates and cloud backups are the biggest silent consumers. Set updates and photo sync to wifi only.
Download in advance
- Offline maps of your destination
- Playlists, podcasts and series
- Translation packs and boarding passes
Limit video
Video is by far the heaviest category. Disable autoplay in social apps and set streaming to low quality. That often halves your usage.
Use data saver
Both iPhone and Android have a saver mode that blocks background traffic. Combine it with per app usage stats to spot the apps that keep running.
Pick the right bundle
If you mostly navigate and message, 5 GB a week goes far. If you work or stream, choose a larger or unlimited bundle. You can always top up without installing a new eSIM.
